Dear-readers

You will probably be surprised about the unusual title of this post? The title should express our crazy travel itineraries during our projects abroad in Singapore and Cape Town. What do they have in common? They both have a beach and sunny weather, while it is winter in Germany. Enough said, let’s talk about our projects abroad.

Doro and Adrian: We have written our last blog article in November 2013 and the two of us have naturally moved to new positions in the meantime. As a short reminder, we have both been working in the Lufthansa Aviation Center (LAC) on different projects. As you might know from our trainee colleagues Julius and Erik the main part of our ProTeam generation is spread over the world right now. In our case it meant moving from Frankfurt to Cape Town (Doro) and Singapore (Adrian). Our projects abroad have usually the duration of three – four months. We both started our projects in January and are happy to tell you about the probably most exciting part of the ProTeam program. After having worked for one month abroad, the whole ProTeam had the chance to meet again at our training center in Seeheim to participate in a two day airline simulation game, where we could manage an airline based on financial KPIs. It was great to see everybody again!

Doro: Since our last post I completed my second project at the LH Passage within the Human Ressources division at the end of 2013. Afterwards I started the third ProTeam project at the beginning of January in Cape Town, South Africa, at the Lufthansa subsidiary “GTS Group”. Maybe you remember Dominic’s last blog post in February (“ProTeam@ Lufthansa Passage: Changing places”) when he also gave some insights to his experiences in Cape Town. By coincidence both of us got the chance to do a project at GTS Group and even if we are located in the same building we are working on two completely different projects. As you might remember from Dominic’s post, GTS Group is a customer service provider for the airline, travel and logistic industry and handles call centers all over the world. I worked on a project to establish a new business unit within the GTS Group and got the chance to train general project management skills. As the project team was about to be set up when I arrived at the beginning of January I supported the project right from scratch. It was an interesting experience to help setting up a team as well as a project plan with all the tasks that will have to be done within the next year. Apart from the insights I got and the things I learned content wise, I also got to work with an intercultural team from South Africa. As you can imagine, not only the work in the GTS office right in the center of Cape Town, but also the life at the beautiful West Coast of South Africa is a lot different to the life in Frankfurt. Not only to have the possibility to view the Table Mountain as well as the sea every morning whilst driving to the office, but especially the different work culture helped to see the company from other perspectives.

At the beginning of April I will be back in Frankfurt and am very much looking forward to it.

Adrian: Hi all! I have completed my second project at the central SCORE team towards the end of January. I moved to Singapore right after finishing my second project and I have found a really nice flat close to the office. I am working here at the Singapore branch of Lufthansa Passage. The foreign branches are mainly concerned with selling the Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian product to the customer abroad. Singapore is the Head Office for whole South East Asia. Beside the actual process of selling, the sales strategy for Asia is also decided in Singapore. My project here is to set up a Sales Training Toolbox with the main goal of educating the sales personnel and general staff about the advantages of the Lufthansa Group product, compared to a single operating airline. For example these advantages are our huge network, product variety and higher market relevance. I am the project manager, since the only team member is me. But I can always rely on the support of my helpful colleges here in Singapore. The end product will take the form of a Web Based Training and a Power Point presentation.

At the beginning of the project I have set up and moderated a workshop with the Sales Managers from the different areas to collect input. This Workshop was part of the Lufthansa Asia convention in Bangkok, where all Asia Pacific teams come together once a year to reevaluate the current strategy and results as well as discuss new sales strategies. Board Member and Head of Sales Jens Bischoff as well as Head of Marketing Alexander Schlaubitz and other top managers have also participated and presented their ideas for developing a stronger market position in Asia.

Besides work, I really enjoy my time in Singapore. I have met a lot of new friends with different cultural backgrounds and I am able to travel around Asia during the weekends.

I will finish my project at the beginning of May and start my last ProTeam project in the Group Strategy department in Frankfurt.

Best regards from Cape Town and Singapore,

Doro-Adrian
