Three years ago, my one-year Erasmus studying period at Tallinn University was coming to an end. Sitting at the gate before boarding back to Italy I wrote on my Facebook page a few words, claiming how life might be a challenging never-ending flux with every one of us. Back on that day, I was not even imagining to become a flight attendant. The idea of undertaking such an adventure was indeed far away from my personal life goals. But life is an adventure, and adventure is one of my favorite words.
Being a flight attendant is an incredible daily adventure. You get to have an uncommon lifestyle, in which your wake-up call can throw you out of bed at any time in the morning. You ask yourself what will happen today, who you are going to meet. You feel a deep inner excitement, you jump in the shower, get your best hairdo and put on your uniform. On the way to the airport, you already feel the excitement growing. Out of a sudden, you put a genuine smile on your face, you somehow feel a sense of pride for what you are actually doing in your life.
Few days ago I had my very first flight as flight attendant for Eurowings Europe. I was feeling slightly nervous, but as soon as I got on the aircraft everyone was ready to help.
I understood that the special thing about being a flight attendant is being yourself every day. Chatting with guests people “hey, how are you?”, “pleasure having you on board”, “are you ready to fly?”. People react so differently with a big smile to you, their eyes light up and you make them feel at home, as soon as they board the aircraft.
During the flight I try to show the unique passion and ambition I have for this job. I try to be part of their journey, I try to create remarkable memories by turning a normal flight into a magical one. I would like to make the difference by offering a common tomato juice: I am offering it with fresh grind pepper directly from the mill into an unforgettable experience.
“This is me. This is where I want to be. I want to cut the edge that Icarus did not manage to cut!”, these are the words I say to myself each and every time when I fly over the Alps or over the Mediterranean.
Working as a flight attendant is an incredible adventure. You do not fly with a group of people. Your colleagues turn into friends. You get to make great connections on board; connections that your guests will be able to notice as soon as they step on board. It is not a everyday job, it is truly a lifestyle. Making an influence, a long-lasting impression on people, this is exactly the crew’s aim.
